Your length of stay in hospital will vary according to your condition.
For an uncomplicated vaginal birth, you can anticipate going home by day 3 or 4. For a routine caesarean delivery you can expect to go home by day 4 or 5.
Should you need to stay longer, you will be advised of this as soon as it becomes evident.
If your baby requires admission to the special care nursery and needs to remain in hospital longer than you, your own admission will be for the period that pertains to your own clinical condition. You may be ready for discharge before your baby and, should this be the case, you will be discharged as a patient at that time.
Parents are advised to inform their health fund about the birth of a child to ensure the infant is included on their policy.
